Lovable Friday!

1. DIY Zipper Rings

These rings are just too much. When I stumbled on this photo on Pinterest, I thought I would be able to find a link to purchase them – little did I know they were a DIY project! I was floored…and after reading the simple tutorial, I was inspired to possibly make a trip to the nearest craft store and give it a whirl myself! These would also make really spectacular and unique gifts for girlfriends or family!

Valentine’s Day 2011

I’ve been hearing a lot of negative comments this year about Valentine’s Day, but I have to admit that I really enjoy the holiday, mostly due to the fact that the hubs and I celebrate it a little more non-traditionally. We don’t make reservations at a fancy resturant, we don’t wear matching outfits, we don’t buy each other flowers and stuffed bears. We try our best to celebrate our love in a low key, yet romantic way.

Last year, we had a picnic in our soon-to-be-home, followed by a trip to IKEA and a home-cooked dinner while playing Star Trek scrabble. Awesome? I know.

This year, it was my turn. I decided to decorate the dining area in all things pink & red, and try my hand at both breakfast and dinner. It was a daunting task, but surprisingly a success! Granted, the hubs helped me a lot, but I was impressed with my growing abilities in the kitchen.

1. Dino bookend

Who wouldn’t want Bobo the dinosaur holding up their books, acting as a door stopper or just staring at you with those non-existent, but somehow adorable eyes? You just can’t resist. Although a little pricey at $48, you can have your own leather Bobo to adorn your bachelor pad, children’s room or office space. It’s kind of weird and sad that I will no longer have a desk to call my own (new job starts in a couple weeks & it’s a contracted position), but if I still did, I would love this little sucker to perch on it. Although I would probably switch out his plain black collar for a nice hot pink number instead. ;)

1. The Kills

Don’t you love when you feel like you are re-discovering a band for the first time at every listen? That’s how I feel with The Kills. It’s almost like I forget how amazing they are on a quarterly basis and then magically remember. I have no idea why they are so underrated, but I could listen to them all day. You are probably familiar with front lady Alison Mosshart, from The Dead Weather, but there is just something even more special about her already gritty style while fronting The Kills. I love how the band fluctuates between sultry, fun and emotional almost seamlessly. Needless to say, I am beyond excited for their 4th studio album, Blood Pressures, which is slated for release in April! Hey Kills, if you are listening, please swing by South Florida while on tour!

Squeeworthy: Pirate Radio//The Boat That Rocked

I had wanted to see this movie ever since I laid eyes on the first trailer, but finally got around to checking it out last week while the hubs and I were having a lazy night consisting of a couch, butternut squash soup & On Demand. I knew I’d like it, but I didn’t think I’d love it. Joke was on me, it seems, because I fell head over heels.

Mainly it had to do with the music, the cute British kids and the styling.
…and the music.

(Merry) Lovable Friday!

Being that today is Christmas Eve (or Noche Buena for all my Latin readers), I figured I would keep with the holiday theme and show you some of my most favorite festive items I’ve stumbled on this week!

1. Candy Cane Cookies

Ah, baking. Relaxing (sometimes) and therapeutic (sometimes). While asking you all for your favorite holiday recipes last week as part of the Be My Clementine giveaway, my eyes landed on the seemingly delicious Candy Cane Cookies, submitted by my good friend, Camero (who has a wonderful food blog you should all check out). I decided these were the ones I was going to tackle. Despite some hang-up’s (didn’t form them into candy canes), they were a huge success. In fact, my boss came to my office to specifically ask me if there were any more left several days later (there definitely were not). I especially love how festive they look and the contrast created by the peppermint flavor.

1. DIY Bold Painting

I have a lot of empty wall space in our new home as we have only been living here for 6 months (can’t believe it’s been such a short amount of time), but we have been keeping our eyes peeled for some nice art pieces to fill that void. However, after seeing the beautiful painting Jen Ramos of MadeByGirl quickly cooked up on her own, I am thinking of investing in a canvas and paintbrushes. How gorgeous and powerful is this artwork? I adore the modern simplicity of it. And what’s better than saying “I did that” while giving home tours to friends and family?

She’s Crafty: DIY Holiday Wreath

Well, I did say my wreath adventure was to be continued, and thankfully, I can say that the saga is done. Despite how tedious the process was, after a couple of days it became therapeutic. I would play one of my favorite iTunes playlists (lately it’s been Queen) and zone out in the art of yarn and glue guns.

And I’d like to share that experience with all of you in hopes that you can make your own wreath as well – even if it is not for the holidays, a nice wreath to hang at your front door or as interior decor never goes out of fashion. In fact, I plan on making a smaller one to hang year round!

So without further ado, here is Melificent’s very first tutorial:

Weekend Highlights

Saturday was a highly anticipated day in the world of Melificent. I was finally going to see The Deathly Hallows with some of my closest friends at Cinebistro, a 21+ theater that serves you dinner and drinks as you enjoy the movie. Without giving away any spoilers (I know a lot of people have yet to see the film), the movie was nothing short of incredible. It stayed true to the book and really did a great job evoking all the intense feelings that are swimming all throughout the series closer. I’ve always complained that watching the movies does not compare to reading the books, but while watching Part 1, all the same emotions I felt while reading the book came right back up to the surface. In other words, I was a big heaping pile of loser. I don’t even know how I’m going to handle the second chapter, perhaps with an industrial size tissue box.
