Lovable Friday!

1. Macarons

I think the one defining moment of my time spent in Paris was eating macarons. Sure, the city was breathtaking, sure it’s the birth place of fashion, but for me, it was all about the macarons. Visiting LaDuree was the highlight. My mouth has never exploded into a million pieces when I have eaten something before, and it happened with each and every colorful little macaron. Ever since, I have been dying to find a French bakery in Miami that can replicate that beautiful feeling. Any recs, local readers?

1. Boston Terrier Pops

If there’s one thing I cannot deny, it’s my love of Boston Terriers. I can’t imagine saying no to a cake pop in their image. Could you? Highly doubtful. Although I’ve heard cake pops are horrifically difficult to make, I’d give these a go just based on the cuteness factor.

1. Mismatched Triangle Studs

Little triangles seem to be all the rage in terms of accessories this Winter. Although I no longer visit brick and mortar stores, and am visiting proper online stores less and less frequently as of late, I can report that this is at least the case on Etsy. I have favorited many a triangular necklace, ring or, in this case, earrings. Not on Etsy (& coming with a major price tag), this mismatched pair of studs just makes me smile. I think it would make the perfect gift for a fashionista wife or sister, what say you?

1. Cambridge Satchel Co

Words cannot express how much I love these satchels. If money was not a concern, I’m pretty sure I would have one in every color (especially those festive neon colors). I’d love to splurge and pick one up for our upcoming Euro trip, but looks like I’ll have to settle to just admire (aka; drool) from afar. Which one would be my pick? The lovely classic in this vibrant kelly green.

1. Asos Clutch

I am absolutely in love with this color for summer. That gorgeous turquoise green just reminds me of the beach, namely my most favorite place on Earth: the Florida Keys. This portfolio-style clutch from Asos would just cheer up any outfit, hell it would cheer me up everytime I looked at it! Unfortunately, it comes with a hefty price tag, but comfort yourself in knowing that Asos does not charge any shipping rates! Hey, as a shopaholic you always have to find the silver linings!

Squeeworthy: ZICO Coconut Water

The great people of ZICO coconut water were nice enough to send me a variety pack last week of their delicious and refreshing product to review and share with all of you lovely readers, and I was more than willing to do just that! ZICO is an all-natural beverage that has the 5 essential electrolytes. Do you know that ZICO coconut water has more potassium than a banana and 15 times the potassium of a typical sports drink? It’s also more hydrating than water and has zero fat, cholesterol or added sugar. And it’s my new favorite (non-alcoholic) drink of the summer!

Happy Hump Day: Curtis Stone

I wish I knew how to cook. I wish I could honestly understand the phrases that come out of all the contestant’s mouths on Top Chef, but I really have no idea. Most of the time I either stare in complete confusion or just find something else to do when it is on the TV. But Top Chef Masters? That’s something I could get into, only mainly because of super hot Australian celebrity chef, Curtis Stone. Seriously, how ridiculously good looking is this guy? Why are all Australian men so delicious? Questions we may never be able to answer.

Weekend Highlights

We celebrated the end of an exhausting work week on Friday by heading to Yard House for my coworker and good friend’s birthday party. We, well they, had half yards of delicious beer, and I learned what it truly was to suffer with Celiacs as all my friends chowed down on bread, cake and french fries, as I just looked on. Thankfully, Yard House has their own gluten free menu and were very accommodating. They also carry one brand of gluten free beer, RedBridge, which tastes great but doesn’t even get me buzzed. That night I came to the conclusion that I was just going to ex beer out completely and stick to white wine from now on. Kind of a sad reality, but one I can definitely get used to.

The rest of the weekend, I also battled with my new diet. I found myself getting very faint, as my options are always limited everywhere I go (especially at a kids party!), and I don’t get enough nutrition. I headed grocery shopping on Sunday at a local Publix that has a great Greenwise section (US-1 and 146th Avenue, for my local readers). I was able to pick up a lot of items for half the price than my Whole Foods excursion last weekend so that was a pick-me-up. However, I’m really going to have to get used to carrying snacks with me and making sure that I don’t starve my body. There really are plenty of things I can eat, I just have to be smart about it.

Gluten is the enemy

Friday afternoon I received a call from my doctor’s office regarding my blood work. I had been having some pretty severe intestinal issues for about 2 years now, but had been avoiding getting them checked out due to my doctor (aka; needle) phobia. However, the pain and general discomfort had reached an all time high and I finally waved the white flag and made an appointment. When I got the call, I knew they had found something.

And that something was Celiac Disease.

Weekend Highlights

My bestie, Elsie, and I gorging on our Cake Shakes from Sugar Rush!

Friday night I took my happy little butt right back over to the Tamiami Truckers food court. After a few fun tweets back and forth with Sugar Rush, Sweetness Bakery’s own truck, I had to make sure I swung by for these much gabbed about Cake Shakes. They sound just as evil as they taste, trust me. This particular shake was made with chunks of their red velvet cupcakes, ice cream and a mound of whip cream. It was all sorts of heaven encased in 500+ calories. Oof. If you have one serious sweet tooth, definitely grab one of these the next time you are in the neighborhood.

I was also really happy to see my buddies, Yellow Submarine, at the event. After chatting them up a bit, I was told they would be there every week from now on. So make sure you visit them and pick up a yellow burger…or a yellow dog…or an original sin. Or one of each. Whatever your little heart desires.

A Yellow Burger, in case you need further tempting.

I saw on the event’s Facebook page that they will be moving locations this week, which bums me out a bit, since I liked it being so close to home, and I hope the move is not too drastic. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this time around as I have a friend’s birthday to attend, but I hope it is just as spectacular! Maybe one of you can bring me a souvenir? ;)
