Year in Review: 2009

Favorite movie:

District 9
I knew I was going to love this movie when I attended the panel at Comic-Con, but I don’t think I was ready for how it would affect me. This movie was mind-blowing, not only with special effects, but also with its storyline and message.

Star Trek
Although not a trekker in the least bit, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Be it due to Zachary Quinto, J.J. Abrams or Zachary Quinto, I really don’t know. All I know is that it was absolutely entertaining and I didn’t mind watching it three times in a theater.

2009 Highlights

I know a lot of people had a very rough year in 2009, but we were fortunate enough to have a really amazing year together. It almost seems like every year gets better since we moved in together and got engaged. I really believe that my husband is my good luck charm! Last year, I put together a similar year in review on my old blog, and I’ve decided to make it a tradition! So sit back and enjoy a quick rundown of the highlights of my 2009:

january

We rang in the new year at Marla & Andrea’s downtown loft with our closest friends, attended the art deco car show on South Beach, celebrated my co-worker’s wedding, held a season 5 premiere party for LOST at our pad, celebrated Ian’s birthday by laser tagging, had an epic girl’s night out at LIV night club and welcomed James into his new home by having a party complete with flip cup, beer pong & lots of jager.

Weekend Highlights: Christmas edition

IMG_0723

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas holiday with your loved ones – mine was great! It was very low-key (just the way I like it) and we got to spend quality time not only with our families but also with our closest friends. I also had the majority of the week off, so it was really nice to take a break from the hectic work week to just relax and focus on the things that are really important.

It also didn’t hurt that we got some great gifts!

Gift cards to help us fix and decorate our new home!

Red Envelope’s couple genealogy tree, which will look beautiful in our new home but is going to prove to be a daunting task!

Amazing owl ring from my hubs. He got it through Lara Lewis’ gorgeous Etsy shop of vintage and estate-style jewelry.

And possibly our most amazing gift this year (besides our home of course), is from my father-in-law:

ghia6

Yes, a 1970 Kharmann Ghia in tip-top shape! He fooled us at first by saying that he had bought us one that needed a lot of work, but then surprised us with this beauty! Unfortunately, she hasn’t arrived yet but her parents couldn’t be more excited!

Merry Christmas!

IMG_0530-Edit

Although I am the grinch, I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!  Hope you all have a great holiday with your closest friends & family – make the last moments of 2009 memorable ones! See you all on Monday with a Christmas wrap up!

Holiday Cheer

The big day is literally around the corner, so I thought this sweet meme would be appropriate for the season!

scary-santa

Here’s the plan: People will comment ANONYMOUSLY with things they love and cherish about you. I say anonymously because it makes the atmosphere lighter and more mysterious, kind of like a Secret Santa only with love and holiday cheer! People will wonder who these caring people are and appreciate the fact that they exist.

Then find people you care about and have something nice to say to – even if you don’t know them! – and leave them something that will make their heart feel a little warmer at night. This way, the love will go around and around and the magical spirit of the season can be cherished and appreciated by all.

Don’t forget to pass the goodwill on to others and increase the flow of positive, caring energy!

A Very Merry Hump Day: Ian Somerhalder

I am very faithful to my LOSTies and although I did not really like Ian Somerhalder’s character, Boone, much on the show – he will always be on my good side. It also helps that he is now a main character on my number one guilty pleasure show: The Vampire Diaries. Yeah, yeah. Mock me all you want. The hubs and I absolutely love it! And Ian plays asshole way better than emo, needy and annoying. I’m still kicking myself for not saying hello as he passed right by me in a hotel lobby during Comic-Con. Well, maybe it was for the best since I was about to squeal “BOONE!” Slightly embarrassing. I opted to just squee internally as I so often do. So enjoy this little Christmas present from yours truly and check him out on Twitter!

Pretty Pink Things

By now I’m sure you all know how much I love the color pink. Aside from green, it is my most favorite color. Unfortunately, my husband does not always share my sentiment. However, we have recently made some fun pink purchases (aside from my kick ass cuckoo clock) that I felt like sharing with you here just because!

IMG_0437

That’s right. A hot pink chef’s knife. The hubs wanted to reward my recent cooking stint by buying me a knife he knew I would be excited to use: a pink one. He stumbled on these colorful knives by Pure Komachi while browsing one of his favorite blogs, TheKitchn. Although I am light years away from being the next Bitchin Camero, fun tools definitely inspire to work harder. Who knows? Maybe I’ll blog about my next adventure in cooking 101. ;)

Also, excuse my workout gear. My workout face also came included with said outfit which is why I decided it was best to leave it out.

First off, I’d really like to express my gratitude for every one’s concern on Twitter when I mentioned that my baby girl, Gwen, had to have an emergency trip to the vet after she developed a cyst (what seemed like overnight) and then managed to pop it leaving a bloody, scary mess. The good news is that she is healthy and the cyst was not deemed malignant in any way, shape or form. Because I was worried that it developed because of her collar and her constant tugging and pulling while out on walks, I decided it would be best to get her a harness. I’m a big fan of Puppia harnesses, but am not always a fan of the prices. Luckily, I was able to find a similar style at Pet Supermarket over the weekend and it came in pink! I think she looks absolutely adorable and no longer chokes herself while being walked. I may be able to take her along to pet-friendly events now without fear of her hurting herself. Merry Christmas, Gwen!

Weekend Highlights

On Saturday, the hubs and I made it out to West Palm Beach for our friend, Joshua’s, annual holiday party. We got to hang out with our buddies and his two adorable sons, who were the life of the party. Plus, we got the most amazing party favors: fake moustaches! It really doesn’t get any better than that. Must make a mental note to pick some of these up for our next shindig – they were the biggest hit! And the perfect end to my night was making it home in time to see Muse perform their last song, Starlight, on SNL. They were amazing, as usual, and only made me covet a Florida tour date even more!

The rest of our weekend was spent doing errands and showing our family the house we may be living in come next year. Exciting stuff, people!

This will be a short week for me (thankfully) & I hope some of you were able to score some vacation days as well to spend with your loved ones. It’s almost Christmas time, everyone! And that means we are closer to it all being over!!! What a relief that will be. ;)

Lovable Friday: Etsy edition!

1. Muertosfineskulls
1. Muertosfineskulls

I have this sick fascination with skulls – I just love them involved in basically everything. From fashion to accessories to home decor. You get the point. That’s why I fell in love with the Muertosfineskulls etsy store. They are made my Andy Fark, who swears repeatedly throughout the store that he is not an artist. I can’t say I agree. I hope to pick up this puppy or something similar for my future pink room.

Think Pink!

Now that we are in the process of applying for a loan (not fun) and scheduling a home inspection, the prospect of finally owning a home is starting to sink in. Although it is not official yet, I’m letting myself start gathering inspiration and start thinking of how I’d like to decorate the house. I can’t help myself – it’s so fun! Not to mention something I have been dreaming about for quite some time now. In order to minimize arguments, the hubs and I have decided to split the two extra bedrooms. The hubs takes one, I take one. We can decorate that room in whatever way we wish and then collaborate for the rest of the house. We decided almost instantaneously: the hubs would claim the office and I would tackle the guest room. Sorry guys, no baby room for a couple more years! ;)

I’ve always wanted to have a bright pink kitschy room. What better to house our guests (or ridiculously drunk friends that can’t drive home) than a bright, sunshine-y room that makes you smile? Absolutely nothing! These are some great inspiration pictures that I have collected that are helping me get my thoughts together on what I’d like to do:

I also just recently bought this flippin’ amazing cuckoo clock off my new favorite online store, PlasticLand:

How great would this look in my future room?? The best part is the price – I couldn’t believe it was only $15!! Made me a little more hopeful that I will be able to find hip alternatives to more high end decor items.
